  • Key identification features : Tree to 12 m, dbh 40 cm, often taller (up to 40-46 meters); bark thick, roughened, flaking, pale brown, deeply cracked; branches more or less whorled; Leaves 15-25 cm long, slender, convex, 3-needles per cluster; sheath persistent, grey, lacerated at apex. Cones solitary or in pairs, sometimes in threes, ovoid, 5-7.5 cm long; beak of scales depressed-pyramidal, with a blunt knob at the end; wings four times the length of seed.
