  • Key identification features : Tree, trunk up to 11 m high, base of trunk swollen, often branched; Leaves dark to light green, glossy, 150-180 cm long, flat, leaflets 74-85 pairs, leaflets margin slightly recurved, 9–23.5 × 1–1.3 cm, midvein raised on both surfaces, petiole 40-45 cm long, glabrous, spinescent; male cone lanceolate, orange, 20-25 cm long, cone axis 3-5 cm long; Microsporophylls 3.5-4.5 cm, boat shaped pollen; Megasporophylls 19-40 cm long, each bears 1-3 pairs of ovules, golden brown, woolly, densely tomentose, base semi-orbicular to orbicular, upper portion triangular with abruptly long-acuminate apices, abaxial surface green, glabrous at the apex; Ovule fertile orthotropous, ovoid, 5-5.9 cm long, shortly stalked, bright green when young, becomes greenish-brown when mature; Seeds ovate, 4.8–5.5 × 3.0–4.0 cm.
