  • Key identification features : Scrambling shrub or tree, growing up to 10-15 ft high; Branches long, brachiate, woody, with pale bark, branchlets puberulous, very small thorns present in larger branches; Leaves 1-2 inches broad, membranous to thinly coriaceous, when dry it becomes dark brown, rather shining above, lower surface opaque, apex cuspidate or acuminate, base acute, petiole slender, about one-eighth inch long; Flowers occur in small clusters, about one-third inch in diameter, bracts either ring-like around the base of the flowers or woolly, pedicel sometimes be as long as the calyx; Female calyx small, about one-eighth inch in diameter; Petals elliptic; Disk conical with torn mouth, very broad with sub-entire margin; Styles completely free, pistillode galbrous.
