  • Key identification features : Tree, 8-10 m tall; Trunk very thorny, reddish, bark exfoliating in irregular lamellate plates; Leaves 5-14 cm long, 2.5-3 cm wide, petiole 2-7 mm long; Inflorescence cyme, about 2 cm long; Flower pedicels 3-12 mm long, densely tomentose; Sepals 5.5 mm long, 3 mm wide, petals 8-9 mm long, 2.5 mm wide; Stamens arranged in 3 phalanges, equal to or slightly longer than the petals; Carpels glabrous, each ending in recurved style swollen at apex; Fruit capsule, 10-13mm long, 3 mm in diameter; Seeds slightly laterally curved, about 8mm high, with 3.5 mm wide wing.
