  • Key identification features : Young parts covered with soft, white, spreading hairs; Leaves 2-4 inches long, opaque on upper surface, lower leaf segments often free, obovate, spreading, apex rounded or acute, petiole slender, stipules very large, semicircular to falcate with toothed margins; Flowers smaller, borne in few-flowered corymbs covered with spreading hairs, calyx lobes persistent, obtuse, petals orbicular-ovate, styles inserted centrally, free, carpels free in upper three-fourths, remaining separate from one another, from the calyx tube; Fruit green, becomes 3-lobed when dry, about 0.5 inch in diameter, crowned by reflexed persistent calyx lobes, pyrenes separable, free at the apex, faintly rough.
