  • Key identification features : Medium to large tree, up to 25 m tall, straight trunk; Bark pale grey, initially breaking into small corky, plates, becomes deeply vertically fissured with age; Young twigs pale yellowish-grey, sparsely pubescent, bearing longer glandular hairs; Leaves ovate to obovate, 6-15 cm long, 5-12 cm wide, base deeply cordate, apex abruptly acuminate, margins coarsely but not sharply double-toothed to lobulate, upper surface soon glabrous, lower surface pubescent along the veins, petiole short, 12-25 mm long, initially with glandular hairs, becomes glabrous at maturity; Fruit nut, borne in close clusters of 2 or more, 12-16 mm wide, thick shell, husk finely pubescent with stiff glandular hairs, spreading, up to 40mm wide, fringed with numerous jagged lobes.
