  • Key identification features : Tree, 10-15 m tall; Twigs lenticellate, covered with yellow scales; Leaves pinnately compound, rachis 6.5-10 cm long, covered with yellow scales, stellate hairs, leaflets 5 or 7, opposite, lanceolate to elliptic, 6.5–14 cm long × 3–6.5 cm wide, apex acuminate, base broadly cuneate to obtuse, oblique, margin serrate, surface sparsely stellate-hairy above, sparsely covered with yellow scales, hairy along the midrib, vein axils beneath; Male inflorescence: catkins borne in cluster of 2-3, 10-13 cm long, peduncle 1-1.5 cm long, amle flowers: bract minute, bracteoles oblong, ciliate, stamens 4-7, anthers about 1 mm long; Female flowers: ovary enclosed within 4-lobed involucre; Fruit nut, subglobose, 2.8–3 cm long × 2.5–2.7 cm wide, covered with yellow scales, apex depressed, base tapering, splits into 4-5 valves at maturity.
