  • Key identification features : Shrub or small tree, glabrous; Leaves ternately whorled, obovate-lanceolate, acuminate at both ends, margin entire, glabrous, somewhat coriaceous, pale on lower surface; Inflorescence terminal, erect spicate panicles, panicles in cymose form, spikes secund; Flowers ochroleucous, calyx tube short, cylindrical, 5-toothed, teeth very small, nearly equal, corolla tube elongated, somewhat clavate, throat enlarged, limb 5-cleft, lobes acute, erect, contorted aestivation; Stamens 5, inserted at the throat of the corolla, alternate with corolla lobes, included within corolla tube, filaments very short, anthers linear, bilocular, emarginate at both ends, dehisce longitudinally; Style clavate, equal in length to the stamens, stigma bilabiate, exserted, ovary bilocular, each locule contains many ovules, placentas attached to projections extending into the locules, stipules persistent.
