  • Key identification features : Very tall tree, trunk thick, branchless up to about 100ft, crown much branched, branches spreading downward, branchlets stout, cylindrical, dark brown, glaucous-pruinose; Leaves oblong, base obtuse, abruptly narrowed into the petiole, apex rounded with short, sharp acumen, margin coarsely crenulate-serrate, texture coriaceous, upper surface reddish-green, somewhat shining, petiole stout, flat, margined on the upper side, convex beneath, about 1/24 the length of the leaf blade; Inflorescence terminal panicle, loosely branched, branches slender, rather long, widely spreading, rachis densely flowered, angular-striate, wrinkled, conspicuously swollen nodes; Flowers sessile, articulated with nodes of the inflorescence; Calyx initially globose, later splits into 2 lobes, lobes hemispherical, concave, rather thick, spreading, obscurely crenulate at apex, externally pruinose; Ovary inferior, turbinate, 4-locular, style rather short, somewhat incurved.
