  • Key identification features : Tall tree; Bark dark, dull-grey, deeply furrowed, fibrous in texture; Leaves mostly falcate, narrow, acuminate, 3-5 inches long, lower leaves broader, thick, coriaceous; Inflorescence peduncles axillary or lateral, terete or slightly compressed, each peduncles bears 6-8 flowers, pedicel longer than calyx tube; Calyx tube turbinate, surface smooth, margin forms prominent ring around the flower bud; Operculum conical to acuminate, longer than calyx tube; Stamens numerous, fertile, anthers reniform, anther cells divergent, confluent at apex; Fruit depressed-globose capsule, about 8-13mm in diameter, rim very broad, convex, prominent, valves protrude beyond the rim.
