  • Key identification features : Tree; Branches stout, glabrous; Bark dark brown, dotted with small grey lenticels; Leaves broadly ovate, 9-13cm long, 4-9cm wide, base subrounded or shortly attenuate, apex abruptly, shortly acuminate, margin coarsely, simply serrate, upper surface green, becomes glabrous with age, lower surface appressed greyish or ash-grey-tomentose, petiole short, stout, less than 1 cm long, sparsely tomentose; Inflorescence many-flowered corymb, surface sparsely tomentose; Calyx lobes persistent, reflexed, inner surface white-tomentose; Styles 2, free, glabrous; Fruit ovoid to somewhat turbinate, 8-10mm long, 5-7mm wide, apparently dark red at maturity, surface smooth, without lenticels, locules 2, each containing 1 or 2 ovules.
