- Key identification features : Shrub or small tree, well-branched with ascending branches; Branches ascending, terete, completely glabrous; Leaves imparipinnate, leaflets arranged in 3-4 pairs, rachis long, flattened, without glands; Stipules lanceolate, striate, glabrous, spreading, persistent; Leaflets ovate-lanceolate, minutely mucronate at the apex, shortly petiolulate, completely glabrous and green on both surfaces, 2–4 inches long and 1–1½ inches broad; Fruit pod, dry, papery, linear-oblong, compressed, tapering into a pointed tip at both ends, margin usually entire, sometimes slightly undulate or constricted, surface extremely torulose, prominently reticulate-veined, black and shining outside, whitish internally; Seeds ovate-compressed, tapering to pointed base, black, shining, attached by a long, slender funicle.
