  • Key identification features : Tall shrub or small tree; Branches often pendulous, branchlets scarcely angular; Phyllodes mostly straight or nearly straight, oblong-linear or lanceolate, apex obtuse or slightly acuminate, base much narrowed, 2-5 inches long, usually not more than 0.5 inch broad, thick, margins scarcely thickened; Inflorescence short raceme, each raceme bears 2–3 dense globular flower heads or is reduced to a single head, flowers about 20 or more flowers in each head, pentamerous; Calyx short, truncate at apex, margin entire or minutely toothed; Petals smooth; Fruit pod, 1-3 inches long, valves somewhat convex, hard, thick; Seeds orbicular, arranged longitudinally in the pod, funicle thickened, usually scarlet from near the base, and forms several folds beneath the seed.
