- Key identification features : Trees, up to 20m tall, 1m DBH; Bark greyish-brown; Leaves deciduous, alternate, imparipinnate, 25-75cm long, leaflets 7-15, elliptic-oblong, 6–26 × 3–9 cm, texture leathery to papery, margin entire, apex acute to acuminate, petiole distinct, 10–25 cm long, swollen at the base, petiolules up to 1 cm long; Inflorescence terminal, erect, racemose, 20-36cm long; Flowers hermaphrodite, 3–5 cm in diameter, 5 shallow teeth; Petals 5, free, 1.8–2 × 1–1.5 cm, upper petal larger than the others, covers the deflexed stamens and style; Stamens numerous, deflexed beneath the upper petal; Style deflexed, enclosed by the larger upper petal; Fruit capsule, ellipsoidal to globose, 3–5.5 × 2–3.5 cm, surface warty; Seeds red, 1.5–2.5 × 1.2–1.8 cm.
