  • Key identification features : Spiny shrub or small tree, 5-15 feet high; Leaves narrow, 4-6 times longer than wide, 80–115 × 18–30 mm, ovate-acuminate, often caudate, apex emarginate, base evenly rounded or bluntly pointed, 30–60 × 18–30 mm; Flowers about 25mm diameter, pentamerous; Stamens about 20, initially all connate up to tips, later breaking into bundles, about 10mm long; Pistil about 10mm long, stigma nearly as large as ovary, style short, caducous, ovary 8-11 celled, ovules numerous per cell; Fruit large, slightly oval, 8–11 × 7–10 cm, base rough, furrowed, apex broad, very low papilla, peel rough, 6-10mm thick, 8-11 locules, nearly half filled with seeds; Seeds very large, 16–18 × 11–12 × 7–10 mm, angular due to compression, 40-70 per fruit, polyembryonic.
