  • Key identification features : Branches somewhat 2-edged, surface striated, indumentum bearded with brown hairs, ringed with scars of stipules; Leaves alternate, oblong-ovate, about 4.5 inches long, 2.5 inches wide, base emarginate, somewhat wavy, apex acute, surface rough on both sides with clustered hairs, petiole thickened toward the apex, somewhat flattened above, very short, surface hairy; Stipules opposite to leaves, in pairs, bud-like, deciduous, surface bearded; Inflorescence spike, above axillary, 4-9 flowers, peduncle bearded; Fruiting calyx somewhat globose, surface rough, hairy, keeled with 5 longitudinal membranous ribs, 5 blunt wings, 3 short, erect, folded together, 2 very long, oblong.
