  • Key identification features : Shrub or small tree; Branchlets initially pubescent, becomes glabrescent, dirty greyish-black; Leaves narrowly elliptic to narrowly oblong, young leaves size 3–4 × 1–1.5 cm, base cuneate, margin entire, apex acute, abaxial surface nearly bluish-gray, silky pubescent, slightly shiny, adaxial surface dull green, sometimes silky pubescent, petiole short; Female catkins shortly terete, about 2.5 × 1 cm, sessile, without leaflets, bracts black, lanceolate, approximately equal to the length of ovary, surface villous on both sides, apex acute or slightly obtuse; Female flowers: gland- green with purplish-red apex, terete, about half the ovary length, ovary- ovoid or narrowly ovoid, tomentose, sessile, style about ½–⅔ the length of ovary, stigma short, 2-cleft; Fruit capsule, sessile.
