  • Key identification features : Stem deciduous, remains leafless; Bark exudate present, turns pale brown on exposure, dries to dark brown or nearly black, outer blaze shows white granular stripes, lenticels arranged in vertical lines; Leaves 7–17 × 3–8 cm, petioles and twigs produce milky exudate, stipules 0.3-0.8cm; Male flowers receptacle flat or convex, 7–12 mm in diameter, tepals hairy, obtriangular, about 2 mm long, forming a hood over anthers, anthers white, sessile or nearly sessile, about 1.5 mm long; Female flowers subtended by numerous bracts, style branches or stigmas recurved; Infructescence variable, about 4 × 2 cm; Seeds cotyledons thick, fleshy, nearly equal in size, radicle very short.
