- Key identification features : Shrub or small tree; Branchlets rather stout, young parts somwhat villous with silky, rusty-golden hairs; Stipules small, lanceolate, about half as long as petiole, rigid, wavy-wrinkled, surface initially hairy, soon becomes glabrous, deciduous; Leaves lanceolate, 9–14 cm long × 3–4 cm wide, apex long-acuminate, base shortly pointed, surface of young leaves slightly hairy, mature leaves mostly glabrous except near the base, texture leathery-membranous, somewhat shiny, petiole about 7mm long; Inflorescence spike (male), about 3-4 times shorter than the leaves, usually clustered in leaf axils, slender, flexuous, loosely flowered; Bracts small, obovate; Calyx very small, closely sessile, broader than long, divided nearly to the middle into 3-4 lobes, lobes broad, very shortly pointed, disc covered with rusty-coloured hairs.
