- Key identification features : Shrub, 1-5m tall or small tree, sometimes reaches 20m tall, branchlets glabrous; Leaves obovate or elliptic-oblong, 13–25 cm long × 6–8.8 cm wide, surface glabrous, margin entire or shortly serrate towards the upper part, apex acute or obtuse, base attenuate, decurrent into the petiole, texture chartaceous to subcoriaceous, petiole 0.4-1cm long; Inflorescence raceme, solitary, axillary or ramiflorous, surface glabrous or nearly so, 12-30cm long; Flowers mostly in pairs, pedicel connate up to one-third of their length, glabrous or nearly so, 4-6mm long; Perianth whitish or yellow, glabrous, 1.8-2.8cm long, disc glands subtruncate, almost completely fused into a crenulate ring, ovary narrowly ovoid, glabrous; Fruit broadly ellipsoid or ovoid, slightly oblique, apex shortly apiculate, base attenuate or contracted into a short stipe, ribs usually 6, more or less distinct, obtuse longitudinal ribs, bluish-green when young, turns purplish-black when mature, 3–5 cm long × 2–3 cm wide.
