  • Key identification features : Tree, up to 20m tall, trunk up to about 1.5m diameter, branches stout, spreading, branchlets quadrangular; Leaves opposite, petiole up to about 10cm long, leaves digitate with 3-5 leaflets, lamina about 5–12.5 × 3–5 cm, coriaceous, glabrous, margin entire, elliptic-oblong to obovate, apex abruptly acute to subacuminate, surface dark green, glossy, slightly undulate, domatia present at the axils of the midrib (costa) and main veins; Inflorescence axillary panicles, dichotomously branched, large, bears about 10-15 flowers; Calyx cup-shaped, minutely 5-toothed; Corolla dull red, pubescent, bilabiate, about 2.5-3.5cm long, upper lip entire or bifid, lower lip deflexed, 3-lobed; Style slender, about 25 mm long, bifid at the apex; Fruit drupe, subglobose, bright red, about 2 cm in diameter.
