- Key identification features : Shrub or small tree, 4m high or more, stem up to 6 inches diameter, branches upright; Bark brown, warty, with black buds; Leaves trifoliolate, leaflets ovate, pointed, or ovate-lanceolate, smooth, dark green above, grey, softly hairy below, 5 inches long, 2.5 inches wide, petiole about 1 inch long, angled; Flowers few, terminal, short-lived, beautiful; Calyx two-lipped, about 0.5 inches long, lower lobe two-lobed, all lobes oblong, blunt, with brown pubescent margins; Corolla slender, somewhat two-lipped, about 2 inches long, wide tube, 5 lobes broad, rounded, color rose, white, with yellow markings on lower lip, margins very finely ciliate; Stamens 5, silaments slender, bristly at the base, anthers versatile, narrow, curved, brown, very small appendage; Ovary cylindrical, purplish, disk small, ring-shaped, green, style slender, white, stigma truncate, slightly notched; Immature fruits slender, cylindrical.
