- Key identification features : Trees, 5-15m tall, bark grey; Leaves ovate to elliptic, 5–15 × 4–12 cm, base rounded, rarely broadly cuneate or cordate, margin entire, rarely with inconspicuous obtuse teeth, apex obtuse, upper surface hispid, lower surface densely pubescent, rarely subglabrous; Inflorescence cyme, terminal, lateral; Flowers sessile or nearly sessile, dimorphic, tetra- or pentamerous; Calyx campanulate, about 5mm long, lobes regular, 1-1.5mm long; Corolla white, 6.5-8.5mm long, tube 2.5-3mm long, throat with long white hairs, lobes oblong, 4-5.5mm long, recurved; Filaments about 3.5mm in staminate flowers, 0.5-1mm in bisexual flowers; Ovary ovoid, style underdeveloped, about 4mm long, stigma spatulate; Fruit drupe, red or pale red, ellipsoid, 5-8mm in diameter, surface glabrous or sparsely pubescent, surrounded by lobed cupular persistent calyx.
