  • Key identification features : Tree, cylindrical, up to 60m tall, straight; Bark reddish-grey to almost black, surface smooth to slightly rough with fine, irregular fissures; Leaves arranged in whorls of 6-8, dark green above, glaucous beneath, large, 7-18cm long, oblong, young leaves orange or red in color; Inflorescence panicles; Flowers small, star-shaped, white or off-white flowers, 2mm size, fragrant; Fruits woody, brown, follicles that grow in pairs, 20-30cm long, up to 4.5cm wide, slightly narrowed at both ends; Seeds small, thin, flat, elliptic to oblong, thin membranous wings at both ends.
