- Key identification features : Shrubs or trees, 2-4m tall, bark glabrous, grey to yellowish-brown, young stems lenticellate, branches terete; Leaves arranged in 2-4 whorls, elliptic or ovate-elliptic, 12–18 × 3–5 cm, surface glabrous or puberulous, coriaceous, stipules dary, scaly, petiole 1-2.5cm long; Inflorescence cymose, terminal, peduncles 1-2.5cm long; Flowers creamy white, 6-7mm in diameter; Calyx imbricate, connate at base, glabrous, persistent; Corolla pink or pinkish-red, tube 8–10 mm long, widened above the middle, indumentum at the mouth, lobes triangular, 3–4 × 3–4 mm, epipetalous, basifixed; Ovary ovoid, glabrous, carpels 2, style 4mm long, stigma pagoda-like; Fruit follicles in pairs, up to 9cm long, splitting longitudinally; Seed dry, flattened, both ends rounded, hairy, 8 × 3 mm.
