  • Key identification features : Evergreen tree, up to 8m tall, young shoots glabrous; Leaves oblanceolate, sometimes broadly oblanceolate, 8-12cm long, 3-4.5cm broad, texture papery, base acute, narrowed into the petiole, apex shortly acuminate, glabrous, petiole glabrous, 1.5-2cm long; Inflorescence axillary, cymose, paniculate, 1.5-2cm long, slightly puberulous, bracts linear-triangular, 1–2 mm long, caducous; Flowers unisexual, pedicel 1-3mm long; Calyx campanulate, tube about 0.5mm long, lobes about 0.5 mm long, rounded triangular, ciliate margins; Corolla white, tube 1.5-2mm long, lobes rounded, 1-1.5mm long; Stamens in male flowers: exserted, filaments attached at the top of the corolla tube, about 1 mm long, anthers elliptic, about 0.5 mm long, without terminal appendage; Gynoecium in female flowers: ovary about 1mm long, style about 3mm long, stigma capitate, slightly bilobed; Fruit drupe, ellipsoidal, 15–20 mm long × 6–8 mm diameter, purple or blue-black when ripe.
