  • Key identification features : Shrub or small tree, up to 4-8m tall; Branchlets purple in color, slightly flattened when young, becomes terete with maturity; Leaves papery to almost leathery in texturem 3-10cm long, 2-5cm wide, elliptic, oblong-elliptic, or ovate-elliptic, margin entire or remotely serrate near the apex, apex acute to shortly acuminate, surface glabrous except on veins and vein axils, petiole 0.5-1.0cm long; Inflorescence axillary racemes, each raceme bears 2-5 flowers, raceme length 5-8cm; Flowers 2-3cm long, pedicel 2.5-5cm long, glabrous or sparsely stellate-pubescent, calyx 5-toothed, corolla tube 0.3-0.5mm long, corolla lobes 1.1-2.0cm long, ovate, oblong-ovate, obovate, or ovate-lanceolate, stames shorter than corolla, filaments with white villous hairs on the free part; Fruit ovoid, 0.8-1.4cm long, surface irregulary rugose, densely covered with grey stellate tomentose hairs, apex shortly pointed.
