- Key identification features : Perennial deciduous tree, bole maybe straight, usually crooked, tall with irregular, open-rounded to narrow-oval crown; Bark scaly to ridged to blocky plates, when mature light greyish brown, broken into longitudinal scaly, flat ridges; Leaves simple, opposite on large branches, whorled in threes on young stems, large, ovate to ovate-oblong, 8-12 inches long, yellowish-green, margin entire, apex pointed, base rounded to cordate, upper surface darker green, lower surface paler green, pubescent; Flowers bisexual, large clusters at stem tips, branched clusters, corolla white, bell-shaped, 5-lobed with ruffled edges, inner side yellow, orange or purple spotting or streaking, tubular, showy, up to half inch broad; Fruit pod, slender, 10-24 inches long, turns dark brown when mature.
