  • Key identification features : Deciduous tree, up to 20m high, trunk up to 1m thick, twigs stout, ascending or spreading, greenish to dark red, glabrous or slightly hairy, very brittle at the base; Leaves narrowly lanceolate to lanceolate, 7–12(–15) × 1.5–3.5 cm, margin coarsely, remotely serrate, with 4–6 glandular teeth per cm, glabrous or nearly at maturity, upper surface dark green, lower surface glaucous, petiole 7–20 mm, glabrous, glandular above at the tip; Inflorescence catkins, 4-8cm long, peduncle 1-3cm, bearing 2–5 small leaves, scales greenish-yellow, crisp-villous, deciduous; Male flowers: stamens 2; Female flowers: style 0.3-1mm long, pedicel 0.5-1mm; Fruit narrowly conic, 4-5.5mm, glabrous.
