  • Key identification features : Deciduous shrubs or small tree, up to 8m high, diameter at breast height (d.b.h.) about 10 cm, branches and twigs grey-green to grey-brown, terete, sturdy; Leaves elliptic, oblong-elliptic, ovate, or obovate-elliptic, thickly papery to leathery, 6–13 × 1.5–7 cm, base cuneate or attenuate, margin crenulate, apex obtuse or mucronulate; Peduncle 2-6 cm, 1-3 × dichotomously branched with several to many flowers, pedicel 5-10 mm; Flowers tetramerous, diameter 10-12mm, sepals semirotund, persistent, petals yellow or brown-green, orbicular; Fruit capsule, 4-angled, brown to yellow-brown or red-brown, 1.2–1.5(–2) × 1–1.2(–1.5) cm, mature capsule 4 lobed; Seeds 3-6 per locule, ellipsoid, dark brown, arillate.
