  • Key identification features : Medium-sized, deciduous tree, upright conical form, may spread at maturity, 10-20m high; Twigs reddish-brown to grey; Young bark light brown to reddish-brown, smooth with lenticels, mature bark greyish-brown with slight furrows, scaly ridges; Leaves simple, alternate, heart-shaped to ovate or broadly ovate, margin crenate to finely serrated, apex acuminate, texture leathery, glabrous, upper surface glossy, dark green, lower surface paler, light green; Flowers arranged in large clusters, about 7.5cm diameter, white color; Fruit small pome, diameter about 1.5cm, olive-brown to tan with tiny russet dots, tastes very bitter; Seeds 2-6 per fruit.
