- Key identification features : Evergreen tree, medium-sized; Leaves compound, 4 leaflets arranged in 2 opposite pairs, sometimes reduced to 3 or even 2 leaflets, terminal pair much larger than basal pair, young leaves striking bright reddish-pink, drooping, midrib yellowish, leaflets subsessile, leathery, glabrous, elliptic, elliptic-lanceolate to somewhat obovate or obovate-oblong; Inflorescence racemes, arise in leaf axils, often 3-5 fascicled; Sepals 4, free, creamy white, thin, reflexed in open flower, tips sometimes curved upward, 3.5–5 × 1.5–2.5 mm, elliptic-oblong, one sepal ovate-oblong; Petals 5, free, white, erect, linear-oblong, 2.5–5 × 1–1.5 mm, thin, abruptly short-tapering, base brownish, deciduous; Stamens 10, filaments slender, hairless, 7-9mm long; Fruit pod, young pods smooth, crescent-shaped or boat-shaped, 2 × 1 cm, laterally compressed, green when young, turning brown when mature, finely velvety-hairy, obscurely wrinkled when mature.
