- Key identification features : Shrub or small tree; Leaves opposite or ternate, coriaceous, oblong or ovate-elliptic, apex obtuse, base cordate, stipules interpetiolar; Flowers white, fragrant, numerous, arranged in large, sub-globose clusters of sessile cymes, cymes composed of 3-5 pairs of short branches, pedicel very short, flower buds ellipsoid; Bracts: lower bracts broad, pointed, upper bracts lanceolate, connected by a stipule-like membrane across the nodes, bracteoles minute; Clayx-tube ovoid-oblong, small, teeth 4, small, triangular; Corolla white, salver-shaped, tube slender, less than 1 inch long, lobes 4, reflexed, linear-oblong, obtuse, throat glabrous; Stamens 4, sessile, epipetalous, anthers linear, alternating with corolla lobes; Ovary inferior, 2-celled, one ovule per cell, style hairy, stigma bifid; Fruit composed of two pyrenes.
