  • Key identification features : Fast-growing, evergreen tree, slender, pyramidal growth form, 20-30feet high, spread about 10-20feet; Leaves simple, leathery, oval, up to 4 inches long, upper surface olive green, lower surface grey-green; Flowers hibiscus-like, diameter up to 2 inches, petals pink when fresh, fading to white with age; Stamens united into conspicuous projecting column, anthers showy, golden to orange; Fruit pendent, fuzzy brown capsules; Seeds kidney-shaped, enclosed by fine irritating hairs.
