  • Key identification features : Evergreen shrub or small tree, up 15m high; Bark grey-brown, young branchlets, buds, petioles, and brachyblasts covered with dense yellow-brown hairs; Leaves elliptic, 4–10 × 1.8–4.5 cm, upper surface glossy, glabrous, lower surface mostly glabrescent, except for brown appressed hairs along the midvein, base cuneate, apex obtusely acute, petiole short, 2-4mm long, stipular scar extending up to petiole apex; Flowers erect, sweetly fragrant, 1.2–2 × 0.6–1.1 cm; Tepals 6, pale yellow, at time with red to purple margins, long elliptic, fleshy, thick, 1.2–2 × 0.6–1.1 cm; Stamens 7-8mm long, connective exserted, forming sharp tip; Gynoecium 7mm long, glabrous, exceeding androecium, gynophore 6mm long, pale yellow, tomentose; Fruit 2-3.5cm long, marture carpels ovoid to globose, with a mucronate beak at the apex.
