  • Key identification features : A shrub or a small tree up to 5 m tall with greenish twigs and slender branchlets densely covered with grey silky hairs. Leaves oblong to linear-lanceolate, 5–7.5 cm long, narrowed into short petioles; margins revolute, underside hoary with fine, matted hairs; upper surface glabrous to lightly hairy; stipules setaceous to lanceolate. Leaf bases not auriculate. Male catkins up to 2.5 cm long; female catkins 5–10 cm long, borne on leafy peduncles. Floral bracts brown to black at the apex, fringed with long silky hairs. Capsules grey-tomentose, tapering into a long, slender style.
