  • Key identification features : Medium size deciduous trees; leaves variable in shape, ovate, rhomboid or heart-shaped, 5-7.5 cm long, margin toothed, on long stalks to 5 cm in older trees. Male catkins 2.5-5 cm, female to 7.5 cm. Capsules lance-shaped 0.6-1.2 cm on slender stalks. Seeds surrounded by silky hairs.
