- Key identification features : A medium to large tree with smooth, whitish to greyish bark on young branches, rough on older stems; Young shoots are covered with cottony tomentum; Leaves are ovate, 5-10.5 cm long, with 3-5 lobes, cottony on the upper surface when young, and tomentose on the lower surface; Male catkins are 5-10.5 cm long, with 5-10 stamens, Female catkins are 3-5 cm long, with a cup-shaped disk and 2 stigmas split into 4 lobes; Capsules are 5-6.5 mm long, bivalved, and smooth.
