  • Key identification features : Medium-sized to large tree, reaching up to 18 meters in height; Branchlets angled or slightly compressed, sparsely pubescent; Internodes 0.5–1 cm long; Branches terete, glabrous; Leaves simple, opposite, obovate-lanceolate, 2.5–4 cm in length and 1–1.7 cm in width, base cuneate, gradually narrowing towards the petiole, margins recurved, apex shortly acuminate, coriaceous, glabrous, with younger leaves sparsely pubescent on the abaxial surface; Petiole 2–3 mm long, usually glabrous, rounded beneath, channelled above, may have sparse pubescence in younger leaves; Flowers 0.5–0.8 cm across, white, solitary, axillary, binate with opposite axils, Pedicel 0.5–1 cm long, terete, sparsely pubescent, Bracts 2 linear-lanceolate bracts, approximately 3 mm long, caducous, Bracteoles ovate, approximately 3 mm long, caducous; Calyx sparsely pubescent, Lobes 4, unequal in size (two larger and two smaller), oblong, measuring 2–4.2 × 2.2–2.5 mm, sparsely pubescent, ciliate at the margins, obtuse-rounded at the apex, boat-shaped; Petals 4, orbicular, about 0.7cm long, base clawed with margin ciliate at the base, apex rounded, glabrous, petals recurved at maturity; Staminal disc flat, rounded, hairy, measuring 0.5–0.6 cm across, filaments filiform, measuring 1.5-2mm long, anthers oblong, 2-celled, dorsifixed; Ovary globose, 2-celled, ovule many, minute, axile placentation, style subulate, about 1.1cm long, Stigma simple, acute at apex; Fruit drupe, oblongoid-ellipsoid, about 1.5 cm in diameter, sparsely pubescent, with persistent calyx.
