  • Key identification features : Shrub or small tree, up to 4 m in height; Internodes 4–7 cm long, glabrescent; Branchlets and young leaves fulvous pubescent; Leaves simple, opposite, elliptic-oblong, 3–7 × 1.5–3 cm, membranous, glabrescent, base rounded, margin thick, apex abruptly acuminate; Petioles up to 5 mm long, black and wrinkled when dry, sulcate above, rounded below; Flowers supra-axillary, opposite, 2–3 cm across, actinomorphic, bisexual, Pedicels up to 3.5 cm long, fulvous pubescent, Bracteoles linear, approximately 5 mm long, persistent in fruit; Calyx adnate to the ovary, lobes 4, subequal, 4–6 mm across, abaxially fulvous pubescent, margin ciliate, apex obtuse; Petals 4, elliptic-oblong, approximately 12–8 mm, base and apex rounded, pellucid dotted inside, 11–13 nerved from base; Disc flat, quadrangular, enlarged, hairy; Stamens numerous, inserted on the disc, white, spreading, filaments filiform, 5–10 mm long, unequal, anthers 2-celled, parallel, ovate, minute, versatile, latrorse; Ovary 2-locular, subglobose, 5–7 × 2–3 mm, fulvous pubescent, ovules 15–20 in each locule, central axile placentation, Style subulate, approximately 8 mm long, Stigma simple, acute at apex; Fruit berry, globose, approximately 1 cm across, fulvous pubescent with persistent calyx lobes.
