- Key identification features : Medium-sized trees, 5–12 m tall; Bark smooth, grey; Branchlets brown, terete, young stems brownish tomentose; Leaves alternate, 2–5 × 0.5–1.5 cm, linear-lanceolate to elliptic-lanceolate, membranous, base cuneate, margins entire, apex emarginate, surface glabrous and glossy above; Petiole 0.3–0.5 cm long, sulcate above, rounded beneath, sparsely brownish tomentose; Inflorescence terminal, rarely axillary, solitary; Flowers bisexual, actinomorphic, white, Bracteoles 2, ovate-oblong, 0.8–1 × 0.8–1.1 mm, densely brown-hairy, Bracts 2, linear-lanceolate, c. 5 × 3 mm, densely brownish hairy outside, glabrous within, Pedicels 0.3–0.5 cm long, brownish tomentose, terete; Calyx campanulate, lobes 4 (arranged 2+2), unequal; larger lobes ~1.5 mm, smaller ~0.5 mm, densely brownish hairy on abaxial side, apex rounded, ciliate; Corolla petals 4, alternate with calyx lobes, ovate-elliptic, ~3 × 3.5 mm, white, often reflexed; Stamens numerous, free, filaments ~3 mm long, white, anthers basifixed, pale white, ~0.5 mm long; Hypanthium globose, calyx tube ~0.5 mm long, Ovary superior, 2-celled, raised above the disc, many ovules per locule, Style subulate, slender, simple, ~5 mm long; Fruit berry, obovoid, occasionally globose, ~2.5 × 1.5 cm, orange when ripe, persistent but short calyx lobes.
