  • Habitat : In undisturbed mixed dipterocarp, swamp and coastal (tidal) forests up to 500 m altitude. Along rivers and streams and in swamps, including tidal zones. On clay soils, but also on sand and limestone. In secondary forests usually present as a pre-disturbance remnant.
  • Key identification features : Sub-canopy tree up to 6–40 m tall; Leaves alternate, simple, chartaceous, elliptic to oblong, penni-veined, glabrous to soon glabrescent, upper surface yellowish or olivaceous on drying, lower surface slightly whitish or glabrescent; Inflorescences paniculate, few-flowered, axillary, glabrescent, with sparse appressed hairs; Flowers unisexual, yellow; Fruits dehiscent capsules, ovoid to ellipsoid-oblong, yellow-orange-brown, glabrescent, dark brown on drying, base narrowed into a pseudostalk; Seed with divided orange-red aril.
