Leaves in whorls or spiral, narrowly lanceolate, blade 10-15 cm, venation reticulate, veins prominent; flowers sessile, in spikes up to 75 cm long; calyx-tube clavate, 4-angled, 8 mm long, segments acute, filaments 2.2 cm long; Fruit boldly 4-angled, more than 5 cm long.
