  • Key identification features : Trees 9-14 m high with straight, sharp, compound spines on the stem which are 2-3 cm long. Leaves oblong-lanceolate, coriaceous, 15-50 × 3-60 cm, glabrous below, glaucous above, apex shortly acuminate, base acute, distantly serrate; petiole with apical glands. Inflorescence axillary raceme, 4-6 cm. Flowers white, 4-8 mm; sepals 8, lanceolate with ciliate margin; petals 8. Stamens numerous, filaments 6-9 mm; anthers linear; disc gland thick. Ovary ovoid. Fruit globose, 2.5 cm.
