  • Key identification features : Succulent shrub or tree, upto 7m in height; Branches in whorls, spreading and curving upwards, 2–5-winged, constricted into variably shaped segments, 2.5–5 cm wide with very thin wings, ultimate branches are often 2-winged; Spine shields very narrow, usually separate, sometimes extended above to enclose the flowering eye, Spines paired, up to 7.5 mm long; Inflorscence cyathium; Flowers solitary on very stout peduncles; Cyathia upto 4.5 × 10 mm, yellow; Fruit capsule, upto 9.5 × 23 mm, deeply lobed, exserted on a stout pedicel, approximately 7 mm long.
