  • Key identification features : Tree; Leaves alternate, with short petioles, leaf blade is simple, base often asymmetrical, margin entire or serrate. Inflorescences axillary; Male flowers: found in glomerules, sepals 4-6, distinct, unequal, imbricate (overlapping); Petals absent; Stamens are numerous; Female flowers: solitary and axillary, sepals similar to male flowers, but larger; Petals absent. Style is short and stigmatiform; Fruit a drupe, fleshy, with a single hard seed.
