  • Key identification features : A small tree or shrub with thick, coarse branches and very coriaceous leaves, which are finely serrate or sometimes entire, in both texture and coloration. The leaves are elliptic to oblong-lanceolate, 10–15 cm long, subcoriaceous, entire, with bluntly acuminate apices and pale undersides; petioles measure around 7–10 mm. Cymes are stout, though flower details remain uncertain. Fruits are globose, about the size of a large cherry, roughened with minute tubercles, borne on straight pedicels approximately 13 mm long. Capsules are leathery and dehiscent, generally 4-lobed and 4-valved though often reduced or obscure; seeds are solitary in each locule and covered by a reddish aril.
