  • Key identification features : Large, solitary palm, growing straight and erect, typically reaching a height of up to 18 m; Trunk massive, about 60cm in diameter, often covered by interlaced leaf bases left by fallen leaves, which eventually detach to reveal smooth light brown trunk with leaf scar rings; Leaves costapalmate, dull green, approximately 125cm long, petioles 150-185cm long. leaf segments deeply incised, cutting about halfway to the center, dividing each leaf into two parts, segment split into 2 threadlike projections, leaf drooping toward the ground, giving a graceful charm to the overall recurving appearance; Pedicel about 91cm long, appearing in spring within the crown of leaves; Inflorescence: stalks divide into numerous branches holding small creamy white flowers, approximately 0.25 in (8 mm) across; Fruit pear-shaped, black, about 1-1.4cm in diameter.
