  • Key identification features : Majestic palm 15–22 m tall with 5–8 m wide canopy; Stem single, stout, grey, cylindrical, tapering upwards, 30–50 cm thick, smooth with shallow rings; Crownshaft short; Leaves 16–25, pinnate, 2–3 × 1–1.5 m, arching, twisted; Petioles 1–2 m, broad-based; Leaflets 70–73 per side, 10–20 cm, regular, attenuate, in one plane; Flowers unisexual, on same plant—male red with resinous scent, female green, borne in branched spadices; Fruits bright red, globose to ellipsoid, 7.5–9 × 7–8.5 mm, 1-seeded, pulp bitter, stigmatic remains subapical to lateral.
