  • Key identification features : Perennial deciduous tree, up to 12 meters tall; Young branches tomentose; Leaves simple, elliptic, ovate or oblong, 8–15 × 5–10 cm, base obliquely rounded to cordate, apex acute; Petiole 2-5mm long, tomentose; Inflorescence opposite to the leaf or on a short branch, 1 or 2 flowers per inflorescence; Peduncle 5-10mm, tomentose; Bracts minute, caducous; Pedicel upto 4cm; Sepals slender; Outer petals ovate-triangular, 2–8 mm × 1.5–3.5 mm, slightly longer than sepals, inner petals dark brown, ovate-lanceolate, ca. 10 × 6 mm, dense appressed golden hairs on the outside, glabrous inside; Carpels many, pubescent, ovules 2 per carpel, stigma clavate; Fruit monocarp, globose to ovoid, about 20 × 16 mm, green when young, turning purple after ripening.
